A Couples Lodging Guide to Vegas
For all of you couples who seek a unique and unforgettable Vegas destination trip, I’ve got just that for you. Complete with an itinerary of suggested spots to eat, sip, explore, and enjoy. Returners to Vegas or first-timers, this works for both groups. Take a look at what my fiance’ and I did and where we stayed on this nearly five-day trip to send out 2021 and ring in 2022.
The Lodging:
We landed at about 2 pm local time and then made our longer than planned shuttle to shuttle to hotel trip to arrive at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas which we booked on Hotwire.com. So this was not a planned booking but rather, one we got by chance if you know how Hotwire deals work. In this case, we lucked out big! The Mohegan Sun Casino just reopened in March of 2021, so it's making its new appearance known after a massive renovation. A spectacular 4.5-star rated hotel just a mile off the strip and a 10-minute (direct) drive from the airport. It is decked out with several great dining options, an amazing top-notch fitness center/gym, and large, modern, stylish rooms. If you stay here as well, the key places you must go and experience are Kassi Beach House, One Steakhouse, The Shag Room, Funny Library Coffee Shop, and the gym-fitness center. Do not miss these places!
As a fitness professional and athlete myself, taking more than 2–3 days 100% off is rare. I was 3 weeks out from a lifting competition during this trip so I had to keep to the plan as closely as possible and that was not an issue here. A gym fully equipped with all top-tier Techno-Gym brand equipment, it left no question to quality and effectiveness. Treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, StairMaster, it had all of them. Weight plates and Olympic bars, a half-rack station, 8 various weight stack machines, and a full row of dumbbells 10–90lbs are available. They have rowers, physio balls, med balls, and plyo-boxes as well. I was able to do my usual workout without any modifications at all. I love it when I can travel and not need to find a separate place to go train so this was a big convenience. Every morning we were here we used the gym to get our workouts in early and then be on with our day's activities. We never had the chance to see the pool (closed for the season) or the spa as the prices were just a bit too high for us to fork over but the list of services was quite impressive to be frank.
Kassi Beach House was our spur-of-the-moment NYE dinner choice and we loved every last bite of what we got. The manager named Mark was spectacular and gave us VIP treatment during our meal. See the clips of what we got in the album at the end. The vibe is chill yet classy, upscale yet lax. We got seated quickly as the place was hopping let me tell you! I got my usual red wine and Stacy went with a tropical cocktail I can't recall the name of but it was delicious! For the eats, we went with roasted broccolini, roasted Japanese purple potatoes, and grilled octopus. For entrees, I did the seared salmon and Stacy did the roasted half chicken. Terrific options! Once more we had no issue leaving empty plates on the table with food this darn good. The number of times we both let out audible “mmmms” is staggering, no joke.
The Shag Room is where we spent the rest of the evening into the New Year where tables could be reserved as long as $100 per couple was spent which we sure did without issue given the lengthy list of wine, beer, cocktails, and liquor to choose from. Our table had 2 other amazing couples from California join us and we deemed our table “the cool-kids table.” We had a blast here with impressive live music, great drinks, a countdown to the New Year, swanky decor, and great company. Social events and specials take place here nearly every evening so be sure to keep a lookout for what's going down.
On our final evening, we went big with a visit to ONE Steakhouse in the hotel. As Texans, we love our steak and had to see how Vegas and the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas could stack up. They totally killed it! Our meal from start to end was terrific! Assistant general manager CJ and server Martin were class act gentlemen who made you feel like royalty with their kindness and hospitality. My prime 14oz NY strip with a peppercorn/burgundy crust was decadent. My fiance’s 16oz prime ribeye was no different. Our appetizers took no back seat to amazing; savory roasted cauliflower, roasted Brussels sprouts, grilled Spanish octopus, each its own version of pure deliciousness. Little to nothing was left on either of our plates if you get my drift…we kinda liked our meal. The wine list is impressive as is the cocktail menu. Stacy’s Agave Verde cocktail was splendid! Get this for sure! Prices are higher, yes, but as is said with any great steakhouse, you get what you pay for and that reins absolutely true here as well. It's a great meal indeed, but it's a great experience as well. See images in the album at the end.
For our morning caffeine fix, we did both the Funny Library Coffee Shop and the adjacent cafe/juice bar next to the gym. Both serve great coffee and latte’s which we both started every morning off with. No need to leave the hotel at all when you have two great options like this right there.
